HOT WHEELS Infinite Rush Split-Screen and Multiplayer
How couch co-op and online play work across every platform Infinite Rush runs on.
HOT WHEELS Infinite Rush supports both couch co-op and online play. The split between them matters: couch play uses a shared screen, online play uses dedicated lobbies, and Nintendo Switch 2 sits outside the full cross-play pool. This page is the explainer for all multiplayer rules as of the September 10, 2026 launch.
This page covers multiplayer modes alongside the game modes page. Quick Race, Elimination, Waypoints, Smashing Wheels, Time Attack, and Drift Master all have online, offline, and split-screen variants as confirmed by Milestone’s mode grid. This page covers the numbers, the platform splits, and the cross-play rules.
Split-screen couch co-op
Split-screen supports up to four players on a single screen. All six named modes (Quick Race, Elimination, Waypoints, Smashing Wheels, Time Attack, Drift Master) have a local split-screen variant, except that Milestone has noted a six-car cap for Switch 2 split-screen specifically.
The split is horizontal: two players share the top half of the screen, two share the bottom. That layout is standard for four-player split-screen racing games. Players join from the same menu, on the same platform, without needing an online subscription.
Online multiplayer
Online races support up to twelve players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store). The online modes are the same six named playlists, confirmed by Milestone’s mode grid as having an online variant.
Nintendo Switch 2 online supports up to six players, not twelve. It is also excluded from full cross-play. Do not invite a Switch 2 friend into a twelve-car PS5 lobby.
Milestone uses Epic Online Services for PC online. The game also requires Easy Anti-Cheat on PC. Console online does not need EOS; it uses platform-native matchmaking.
Cross-play
Cross-play is supported across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms (Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store). Nintendo Switch 2 is excluded from full cross-play. PS5 players can race Xbox friends and PC friends. Switch 2 players can only race other Switch 2 players online.
This is the confirmed cross-play scope. Milestone has not published whether Switch 2 online lobbies can be joined by PC players via a separate Switch 2 online service. Treat Switch 2 as a closed online pool.
Cross-platform creation sharing
The Track Builder lets you build orange track modules on islands and share creations. Milestone’s confirmed sharing rules: creations can be shared across platforms except Nintendo Switch 2. A build made on PS5 cannot be downloaded on Switch 2. This affects the creative community but does not change split-screen or online racing.
Split-screen versus online: what changes
Split-screen and online play the same six modes, but the screen layout and player count differ. Split-screen is always four players maximum on the same hardware. Online is up to twelve on PS5/Xbox/PC and six on Switch 2.
Class matching applies in both modes. Structured races are class-versus-class regardless of whether you are on a couch or in a lobby. The vehicle classes and Rush Squad pages cover the class system.
Platform subscription requirements
Online play on PlayStation 5 requires PlayStation Plus. Online play on Xbox Series X|S requires Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Core (the tier that covers online console multiplayer). Online play on PC does not require a subscription; EOS is free to use.
Nintendo Switch 2 online requires Nintendo Switch Online. The Switch 2 online service has its own subscription tiers. Check Nintendo’s current offering before launch if you plan to race Switch 2 friends online.
What this page will not predict
It will not speculate on asynchronous multiplayer, seasonal challenges, or ranked ladder systems that Milestone has not announced. The mode grid confirms six named modes with online and split-screen variants. It does not confirm whether ranked seasons or club houses exist.
